Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), virtually digital versions of physical collectibles and arts, are the highlights for Hollywood franchises gazing to arouse fan excitement globally.
WarnerMedia’s DC confirmed that will give away free NFTs of comic-book covers in three different levels of rarity for superheroes involving Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn. The NFT drop to be released October 5, is created to engage more signups for the DC fandom event. Users who enroll for FanDome at dcfandome.com which will commence on October 16 can collect one unrestricted NFT, which is distributed randomly and can unlock a second free collectible if they share their first NFT on social media.
“We spent a lot of time on how to translate and adapt these classic covers into a 21st-century format such as NFTs,” Jim Lee, DC’s publisher and chief creative officer declared. “This drop pays homage to our 87-year history while visualizing a future in which NFTs play a foundational role in novel ways of interacting with DC content and unlocking new experiences.”
DC is collaborating with Palm NFT Studio, which procures creative services for artists and rights holders interested in developing NFTs, for growth. DC said Palm is partly because its blockchain technology uses “environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient” technology to tolerate DC mint “millions of NFTs for fans with near-zero cost.”
DC and Palm are not disclosing how many comic-book cover NFTs they plan to generate. But, according to Palm NFT Studio chief content officer Matt Mason, the rarity levels “will make the less-common NFTs more valuable, and the whole exhibition will thrive in significance to fans as it becomes clearer that this drop exemplifies the start of a completely new passage for DC Comics, and the use of blockchain as a medium for fan engagement and storytelling.”
