✊🏼 On International Women’s Day, art curator Tina Ziegler asserts that non-fungible tokens (NFTs) represent the future of art.
It is a perfect match since International Women's Day 2022 coincides with the World of Women NFT initiative. Tina Ziegler, the curator of Moniker Culture, believes so strongly that she has brought some of the world's top female non-fungible artists under one roof for the art show Creative Debuts x Adidas London: International Women's Month, which will take place on March 17th.
Works from the World of Women exhibition will be joined by artworks from the Boss Beauties and Women Rise exhibitions, both of which are the creations of internationally famous visual artist Maliha Abidi. For International Women's Month, the event will focus a spotlight on 20 female artists and NFT initiatives. According to Ziegler, who believes that NFTs are having an unprecedented influence on art, "I wanted to expose them," which includes "the visionaries, the women who are driving this NFT sector and who have truly cut the route for many, many artists to follow."
"It's quite powerful," she says further. "A large number of these women-led initiatives are focused on empowering women. There are several educational platforms available through their programs; they give money back to the community, they provide artist awards, and they sponsor groups that support women all around the world. I believe it to be revolutionary."
Ziegler says she wants the exhibition to present a "360-degree view from where I sit," starting with the youngest female artists and progressing to more experienced female artists who are making NFTs. The curator, who has been a torchbearer for contemporary and urban art since 2008, has a strong emotional attachment to this exhibition. The situation, she says, is "very personal." I simply wanted to demonstrate the genuine skill that exists in this setting.
Everything from digital art to music and video games is included in the NFT trends. It is this fusion of media and styles that has prompted Ziegler to regard NFTs as a fresh start "Being able to witness how much talent exists in this field has been a great eye-opener for me. It's almost like starting again from the beginning when it comes to learning about art."
Throughout her career, Ziegler has worked in the physical art world, curating more than 300 exhibits. She claims that you become accustomed to what you are familiar with - "Oh, it's a work of art in oil. It is an acrylic painting on canvas. It's a piece of watercolor painting "– and then along comes NFTs and this new type of digital art that completely upends the established order.
What NFTs could accomplish, not only for the arts but for every business imaginable was a revelation to me when I first learned about them. I said to myself, "This is going to transform the world." It was simply so amazing, I remember thinking "she explains.
Ziegler describes how many people have probably lost sight of what NFTs are and have instead gotten infatuated with animated GIFs that sell for millions of dollars on websites like eBay. This is the first introduction to NFT art, and it's a real eye-opener when you go under the surface of badly drawn images and realize what NFTs are capable of.
Andrea Love, who creates felt animations, is a favorite of Ziegler's since everything she does is "very little." Champagne bottles in miniature, little dishes in miniature, and trainers in miniature. Love's stop-motion animation is exclusively available on the internet. Similar to NFT Car Girl, a 20-year-old who produces impeccably detailed renderings of vehicles and positions them in unexpected settings, Ziegler mentions NFT Car Girl.
She informs us the following: "The possibilities of NFTs, the operation of smart contracts, the relationships that can be established with individuals all over the world through the blockchain, as well as the boundaries that have been removed, are all explored in detail.
"It's incredible, and it has the potential to disrupt every single business in existence. Consequently, I believe that all those who are not yet on board, to be honest, don't have much of a choice because everything is moving in the same way. In addition, if people realize that they can take ownership of everything they do – from real estate to what films they want to invest in and see to what restaurants they want to dine at – everything can be channeled through non-fungible tokens, which is quite exciting."
It is about tearing down obstacles for Ziegler in her NFTs, which are the same kinds of obstructions she has encountered in the traditional art world for years. Whenever Ziegler attends an NFT event or a community gathering, she says she is struck by the equality in the room.
"Not only is it gender-equal, but it is also demographically balanced; racial origins, sexual orientation, and other factors are all equally represented. In the NFT arena, it is essentially about anyone who wants to get into it; there aren't any real obstacles to entry apart from education and spending a significant amount of time on your computer, which of course may vary depending on the individual. However, if you have access to the internet, you are treated on an equal footing with everyone else in this area."
The emergence of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has often drawn attention, and Ziegler is the first to argue that there is a need for curation in this field. Kally's interoperable NFT marketplace will be a jumble sale of drawings, renderings, and animations that you may browse through. NFT drops, which occur when an artist develops and publishes a limited-edition timed collection, can occur at any point in time. The one thing that the NFT area lacks is quality control, and in some ways, this is inescapable given the nature of the technology.
'But is it art,' we ask ourselves regularly. Particularly if an NFT of garbage can fetch millions of dollars on the open market. However, according to Ziegler, this is not the appropriate question. She explains that when you try to describe what art is, you are attempting to define how individuals are creative in their way.
I believe this is the problem since it does require imagination to produce an illustration," she adds that NFTs are not just about the art alone, but also about the community that surrounds it and the potential dynamics involved, the uses for which it can be put to use, and the significance that it contains for both the artist and the consumer.
"I believe that NFTs are demonstrating to us that if you like something, you can purchase it, and if you like something, you can be a part of it. You are not required to engage in this debate over whether something is art or not art. Because the folks that work in the NFT field aren't concerned about what the critics say. Because they're going to do it anyhow. And I believe it is in this context that the transformation in thinking is taking place."
NFTs are as much about violating the rules as they are about deconstructing our perceptions of art and the business that surrounds it. When you go more into NFTs, you will discover that everything you thought you understood about art is false.

"You have 12-year-olds in their bedrooms making four or five million dollars in three weeks by selling drawings from their notebook, which they created themselves. That's correct, but how does that make any sense? When we apply it to the traditional art market, however, it does not hold. "It doesn't make any sense," admits Ziegler, who goes on to say, "but that's what makes it fascinating." The next generation does not want to be defined by labels. The NFT space is demonstrating very quickly that all of those borders can be shattered and that you can be anyone you want to be."
To be able to provide a live space for these emerging artists is something that Ziegler finds particularly rewarding. Since 2010, she has specialized in art installations and experiences, as well as providing urban and contemporary artists with a platform to display their ability through events, presentations, grants, and education programs.
She tells us that when you're standing in a room and seeing it live on massive high-definition screens, the NFT art on display at the Creative Debuts and Adidas event takes on a whole new personality and impact. The artwork takes over and dominates the place. It is for this reason that more individuals are purchasing NFT displays so that they can properly display their collections.
She makes the following argument: "I'm no longer simply looking at it as a 2D piece of art; I'm looking at something that has the potential to radically alter the way I think about art in the future. As a result, I believe it is necessary to engage in physical activity."
