The technological world continues to permeate every facet of sports. Next year’s MLB games will have special NFT tickets, thanks to a collaboration between Candy Digital and the baseball league. Supporters won’t utilize them to gain entry to stadiums; instead, they’ll serve as a digital keepsake.
Baseball business development team member Kenny Gersch explains that “tickets have become more and more of a digital commodity rather than physical product, and fans have lost the capacity to keep a tangible ticket as a memento of the games they attended to,” he said.
Is there anyone who doesn’t save physical tickets from the matches or athletic events they attended as if their lives depended upon it? The same holds true for concerts, where the same applies. However, this practice has been superseded with digital tickets or QR codes over time. After a few years, the MLB wants to bring it back.
Only those baseball fans who have purchased tickets to the specific NFT match will be able to use Candy Digital’s NFT ticketing service for normal MLB match tickets. A video of a notable play from that match is what Gersch plans to incorporate in the commemorative NFTs he expects to sell for less than $10.
For the first time, the NFL and Ticketmaster are releasing commemorative NFT tickets for select regular season and playoff games from the 2013 season.
The MLB is also investigating Fan Tokens, according to Gersch, who also noted there are many advantages and possibilities in this sector. The NFL, NHL, and NHL have teamed up with Chiliz and Socios.com to provide fans with a variety of unique experiences.
